Building a Successful Homicide Team

Sgt. Matthew Wilson Sr. supervises an elite group of Homicide detectives in Indiana. Through his leadership and guidance, he has built a team who has cleared 97% of their homicides in 2025. MVCIA is excited to have Sgt. Wilson presenting on a supervisor approach to building a homicide unit.

Kern County, CA Manhunt

In July of 2015 Benjamin Peter Ashley, a 34-year-old transient, became the subject of one of the largest manhunts in Kern County history after a series of violent incidents that included kidnapping three young men, murdering an elderly man in his vacation home, and attempted murder on Law Enforcement officers. The incident escalated over an 18-day period extending for miles along the Pacific Crest Trail. Ashley was armed, highly mobile, familiar with wilderness survival, and willing to use deadly force against both civilians and law enforcement. Sgt. Patrick McIrvin will present this case study.

Chris Watts Investigation - Lessons on Interview and Interrogation

In 2018, Chris Watts murdered his pregnant wife and two daughters in Colorado. The investigation team will be presenting on interview and interrogation techniques used in the investigation.

Dustin Kjersem Homicide - Gallatin County, MT

What was first reported as a possible bear attack near Big Sky, MT, was later determined to be an act of Deliberate Homicide.

Cold Case - Florence Hair Salon Murders

On November 6, 2001, three women were brutally murdered at a hair salon in Florence, MT. This cold case will be reviewed and presented by the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office.
